How to clean your tattoo

Tattoo Cleaning

After 2-3 hours, carefully remove the covering. This does not apply to any second skin style covering, which should be left as advised by your Artist and from then on can the following process begin – If the wrap starts to come-away or air gets into the tattoo covering at any point during this time then remove immediately.

Clean your tattoo and surrounding area with warm water and pH-skin neutral antibacterial soap containing no added perfumes. Clean away any residue and repeat process again with cold water to help subdue swelling, this also closes the pours and locks the ink away where we want it.

Pat the tattoo dry with a paper towel (never wipe) and leave the tattoo to air dry completely for 30-45 minutes. This allows the tattoo to close and for your body to begin forming a natural barrier.

Then apply a thin layer of your OFS Artist recommend tattoo specific aftercare cream.

It is important that you only use a very small amount so as only to soften the tattoo and not make it wet, as this can cause the tattoo to remain open and vulnerable to infections.

Repeat this process 3-4 times per day for the first week.

Over the next 14 days continue to cream your tattoo with the products advised. There may be a thin layer on scabbing over your tattoo – this is normal and will come off by itself.

Things to be aware of

Buy the correct tattoo aftercare product. We stock and sell the leading recommended products in the studio or on our website, click here to view our aftercare range.

DO NOT apply too much aftercare product to the tattoo. This action, along with poor hygiene and general care, is one of the most common ways that tattoos become infected.

NEVER rub, scratch or pick your tattoo. If the tattoo becomes dry and flakey simply apply a little aftercare cream and leave it alone.

AVOID direct sunlight, swimming and contact sports or any exercise that causes rubbing or stretching of the skin.

AVOID saunas and bathing, showering is fine.

AVOID pets and animals. If you are in regular contact with an animal then keep your tattoo covered at all times.

BE SENSIBLE – Your tattoo is an open wound! Use the right products, in the right amounts and keep your general hygiene and cleanliness to a high standard.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Artist or the studio.
