Preparation before getting tattooed is vital for a good tattoo experience, for both the client and artist!

Good preparation with ensue a more comfortable, relaxed experience, and better healing afterwards.

Use our handy checklist below to prepare yourself before heading our way and getting your next ink.

What do i need to do before getting a tattoo?

Eat, sleep, relax, repeat…and moisturise!

First and foremost – TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

The healthier you are, the better you will find your tattoo experience. You are about to put your body through trauma. You don’t want to turn up the studio stressed out, on little to no sleep, bad hygiene and low sugar levels. This is a one way ticket to a painful tattoo experience with high risks of skin damage, infection, fainting or illness and your tattoo not healing well afterwards.

Ideally if you can keep the area moisturised daily for about a week – 2 weeks leading up to the tattoo this is perfect as it will create less skin trauma and the ink will go in easier.

The night before:

  • Prep a bag with some snacks and sugary drinks in to keep your sugar levels up throughout your session and afterwards.
  • No alcohol and avoid painkillers.
  • Stay hydrated – drink water.
  • Get a good night’s sleep so you are well rested.

The day of the tattoo:

  • Ensure you have Photo ID.
  • Shower. The area needs to be clean to lower risk of infection.
  • Do not shave the area! – we will do this. If you cut yourself it could void the appointment. We can’t tattoo damaged skin.
  • Wear appropriate clothing so the area is easily accessible.
  • Eat a good breakfast, or ensure you have eaten well before your appointment so your sugar levels are up.
  • Don’t rush, leave plenty of time so you get to your appointment relaxed.

Lastly if find you are ill – please let your artist know asap and we can re-arrange your appointment.
